David McCarthy

Managing Director

David McCarthy Bio

David has over four decades of experience in the retail and consumer sector as a retailer, supplier, equity analyst, sector banker and academic. Previous industry experience includes being Divisional Director of Business Development at Tesco and Director Business Development at Grand Met Retail, the pubs and restaurant division of the business now known as Diageo. David also has experience as a lecturer in marketing. For many years David has worked in the Financial Services industry, covering the Retail and Consumer sectors.

Between 2019 and 2022 David was Managing Director, Global Retail at HSBC Investment Bank, where he advised a wide array of retailers, suppliers and consumer companies as well as a number of leading Private Equity firms. Previously, David was Global Head of Retail Equity Research at HSBC and was consistently ranked by institutional investors as a leading analyst, recognised for his knowledge and understanding of the consumer, business and the economy.  

An industrial economist by background, David has a wide experience of retailing, acquisitions and post acquisition integration. He is well known for his practical application of retail economics to business strategy and retail operations. He has worked with and presented to consumer companies at Board and Senior levels around the world including Wal-Mart International, Tesco, Unilever, P&G, Nestle, Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer's, Coca-Cola, Coles, HEB, and many dozens of others.  

 

David's current roles include:
